From Our Moriah Family
Our Moriah community is made up of an amazing array of people, from different backgrounds, with varying purposes, across numerous states, and even from different countries!
We asked a few of our Moriah family members, from sponsors to ministry advocates, to tell us a little bit about their involvement in Moriah, including:
1.) Why are you involved in Moriah?
2.) What makes Moriah unique?
Each and every response shows the heart of Moriah, and of those who are serving alongside our ministry in Ethiopia.
Why Are You Involved in Moriah?
“We choose to give to Moriah because we genuinely know the faces behind the organization. It’s not just another charity, but very real faces to us and people we have come to love even though we have never met.”
“I felt the desire to help out someone more than myself and my family... I believe that this also helps show [my daughter] her simple blessings of caring for the next person.”
“I am so grateful that the Lord made it possible for us to be a part of Moriah... seeing that people have a need and being able to meet some of those needs, knowing our contributions go directly to the people we support...the ability to build relationships and see the progress that Moriah is making directly, as opposed to what someone says is happening. It was amazing to meet our sponsor girl [in person]; just our presence [in Ethiopia] meant so much to everyone we met. God is so good! I am so grateful that the Lord made it possible for us to be a part of that. We felt so blessed to be able to experience that joy. With Moriah, there are few things in life that mean that much; to God be the glory, because without Him, this would all be impossible.”
“Moriah follows the plans and missions that God has for them. Moriah has been through a lot and seen a lot of things... now it’s a real thing with real kids and staff, striving to accomplish what God has for the ministry. What Moriah does for kids is my passion; I’ve been in that spot before, and Moriah gives these kids hope and purpose, especially through the staff and the sponsor families. ”
What Makes Moriah Unique?
“Some good friends of mine are heavily involved in the ministry. They shared amazing first hand stories of how Moriah is changing kids’ lives for the better in every way. I know that it’s a trustworthy ministry that supports my favorite demographic... KIDS!
I also love that Moriah is a small ministry. All of the staff (even the ones overseas!) are so hands on and heavily involved in everything that goes on with the ministry. The fact that everyone knows each other just makes it feel like a big, loving family.”
“Moriah is unique because Wana and Genet’s vision is to provide a true family for the kids. The ministry doesn’t just meet their needs... it gives them a valuable place in this world—in a family. The kids are taught so much, but the best part is the wholistic approach that Wana and Genet take. This ministry is different because living in a good relationship with God and healthy relationships with each other is the top priority. The results are incredible!”
“Let me start with the Director, Wana. He is passionate, ambitious, caring, and a hard worker, plus a good father! The [employees] are so caring and give much of their energy for the kids in Moriah. The kids are well treated and have a variety of food, which is very important. And the whole Moriah team (U.S. and Ethiopian) make Moriah unique with their kindness and generosity. THIS is what makes Moriah unique...!”
“Moriah is unique because, for me, it is just the way that [the kids] are all from different pasts, yet they are all so very polite to each other, as if they are all siblings. ”
